Morrissey returns to show how it’s done
“The more you ignore me the closer I get,” Morrissey sang on his 1994 album “Vauxhall and I,” and he could have been describing the course of his resilient career. Though he’s not in the eye of the hurricane these days, as he was with the Smiths in the 1980s, rock’s consummate outsider seems more influential than ever, with his principles of emotional candor and literate song craft resonating through the worlds of emo and indie. And he still commands one of rock’s most avid cult audiences, which will be out in force at his Pasadena performance.
