Injury forces Nash out of All-Star game

Phoenix’s Steve Nash withdrew from Sunday’s All-Star game because of lingering inflammation in his right shoulder.

Nash has sat out the last 3 1/2 games, and the Suns said he wouldn’t play at Seattle on Wednesday, the club’s last game before the All-Star break.

NBA Commissioner David Stern will announce Nash’s replacement.

Golden State Warriors guard Baron Davis will undergo surgery today on his left knee, Coach Don Nelson said.

Nelson said the team would know more about Davis’ playing status after the surgery. Davis hasn’t played since getting hurt Feb. 3 against Charlotte.

Pat Riley is expected to announce at a news conference Wednesday that he will resume coaching the Miami Heat on Feb. 21 at Houston.

Riley left Jan. 3 because of hip and knee surgeries. Ron Rothstein has replaced him.

Riley’s decision was first reported by Miami’s WTVJ television and on the South Florida Sun-Sentinel’s website.

Deon Willford, who hit Golden State guard Stephen Jackson with a car during a fight outside a strip club Oct. 12, was convicted of felony battery and misdemeanor failure to stop at the scene of an accident by a judge in Indianapolis.

Willford, 23, faces two to eight years in prison for the felony and up to a year for the misdemeanor.

Jackson has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of criminal recklessness and misdemeanor counts of battery and disorderly conduct for firing gunshots in the air in the fight.

Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Randy Foye was cited early Monday for disorderly conduct after police found him in a vehicle at a gas station while two of his family members fought outside.

Meanwhile, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor will keep Randy Wittman as coach regardless of whether the team makes the playoffs, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

Wittman, promoted after the firing of Dwane Casey on Jan. 23, is 4-7 since taking over.
