Mixing rock with laughs

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was spotted cutting loose at Metal Skool on Monday night at the Key Club.... And speaking of the comedy rock group Metal Skool, Meat Loaf’s daughter Pearl is scheduled to open for the band on Feb. 26 with her band, Mother Superior, which includes Henry Rollins, Daniel Lanois and her fiance, Anthrax’s Scott Ian.... The Lava Lounge shuttered its doors after a final blow-out on Friday night. Owner Michelle Marini says she and partner Craig Trager are soliciting names for a new venue at the former tiki bar on La Brea. Whoever comes up with the name gets a plaque in his or her honor. Think a Pacific Northwest, woodsy theme. Hey, how about Flannel?

Down with soul -- and the Police

The new downtown venue Royal Claytons hosts a night of soulful house music on Saturday.... Club 82 at Avalon on Fridays is throwing down with multiple hot DJs weekly.... Among those who witnessed the re-formed Police rehearse some of its classics at the Whisky a Go-Go on Monday to announce its world tour were members of the Foo Fighters and the Roots. We hear huge Police fan Robert Downey Jr. showed up for the band’s sound-check at the Staples Center on Saturday before the group’s Grammy performance Sunday.... Such Arquettes as Patricia and David made it out to see the sold-out Derby Dolls roller-derby bout in Little Tokyo on Saturday.
