Devils power past Thrashers

Scott Gomez and Sergei Brylin scored power-play goals 28 seconds apart in the third period to lead the New Jersey Devils to a 2-1 win over the Atlanta Thrashers on Friday night at East Rutherford, N.J.

Martin Brodeur made 25 saves, and New Jersey won for the fourth time in five games. The Devils also ended a six-game losing streak against the Thrashers.

The victory gave the Atlantic Division-leading Devils 56 points, pulling them even with the Thrashers for second place in the Eastern Conference.

Nashville 2, Columbus 0 -- Tomas Vokoun stopped 22 shots at Nashville, helping the Predators win their fourth game in a row. The Predators improved to 4-0 against the Blue Jackets this season.

Minnesota 4, Edmonton 2 -- Marian Gaborik scored twice at Edmonton to help the Wild move into a second-place tie with Vancouver in the Northwest Division.

Brent Johnson signed a two-year contract extension with the Washington Capitals that will pay the backup goaltender $1.625 million. He is 4-5-3 with a 3.50 goals-against average.
