There’s no place like home for Titans

Justin Burns had 19 points and 14 rebounds as Cal State Fullerton defeated UC Riverside, 98-58, Saturday night for its 13th consecutive home win.

Burns was nine for 11 from the field to lead the Titans (13-3, 4-1 Big West Conference) to their eighth win in nine games. The 40-point victory margin was the largest over a conference opponent in school history.

Marcus Crenshaw had 17 points, Frank Robinson had 14 points and nine rebounds and Bobby Brown had 14 points and 10 assists for Fullerton. Scott Cutley had a third double-double for the Titans with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The Highlanders (3-15, 0-5) have lost 13 in a row. Their last victory was on Nov. 18 over Hope International.

UC Irvine 67, Pacific 42 -- The Anteaters (8-10, 2-2 Big West) went on a 17-2 run midway through the second half at Stockton to push their lead to 58-34 with 6:46 left, then finished the game with a 9-2 run to hand the Tigers (5-11, 2-2) their worst conference loss since 1990.

Pacific, the three-time defending regular-season Big West champion, lost for only the second time in four years on its home court in conference play. It was the Tigers’ most lopsided home loss since 1988.

Cal State Northridge 90, Long Beach State 83 -- Calvin Chitwood made three free throws in the final 14.2 seconds at Northridge to give the Matadors the victory. It was the third straight win for the Matadors (9-7, 3-2 Big West), who ended a nine-game winning streak by the 49ers (11-5, 2-1).

San Diego 71, Pepperdine 67 -- With 1:20 left to play at Malibu, the Waves pulled to within three after Marvin Lea made a three-point basket. But the Toreros scored the next four points to stop the comeback.

Chase Griffin had 23 points and seven rebounds to lead the Waves (4-15, 0-3 West Coast Conference), who are having their worst season since 1965-66, when they opened 2-17.

Gyno Pomare had 22 points and a career-best 15 rebounds to lead San Diego (11-6, 1-2).

San Francisco 68, Loyola Marymount 61 -- The Dons (6-11, 2-0 West Coast Conference) made five of seven shots and outscored the Lions (8-11, 0-3), 15-8, in overtime at Loyola Marymount. It was the Lions’ sixth loss in a row.

Matthew Knight had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Damian Martin had 16 points, 14 rebounds and five steals for Loyola, which shot only 37.3%.

Knight scored eight points in a 9-0 run over the final six minutes of regulation to send the game into overtime.

UC Davis 70, UC Santa Barbara 66 -- Vince Oliver made four game-clinching free throws in the final 15.8 seconds at Santa Barbara to give the Aggies (3-12) their first road win of the year. Alex Harris led the Gauchos (11-5) with 28 points.
