As his dad joined thousands of other Chicago Bears fans gathered at Soldier Field on Sunday to scream for their team to end its 21-year Super Bowl drought, young Mark Patrick Pavelka woke up thinking, “What’s the rush?”

Mark Patrick was born Friday night, joining the Bears Fan Club a little earlier than expected. He was due Monday, but his mom, Colleen, opted to have the baby induced so her husband, Mark, could attend the NFC championship game between the Bears and New Orleans Saints.

That is known as true love, in more ways than one.

Getting there early, Part 2

The grown-ups just can’t wait, can they?

At a Sunday night banquet in Beverly Hills, where she was named the Los Angeles Sports Council’s sportswoman of the year, Lisa Leslie announced that the baby she and husband Michael Lockwood are expecting in June will be a boy.

UCLA assistant basketball coach Kerry Keating and guard Arron Afflalo were also in attendance because the Bruins’ run to the Final Four was named fifth-greatest L.A. sports moment in 2006.

When Keating took his turn at the podium, he said, “My boss would be upset with me if I didn’t offer Lisa’s son a scholarship.”

Leslie is a USC graduate, so the recruiting war could be intense.

Before the 1970 merger, the Bears and Colts were members of the NFL. How many times did they meet in the playoffs?

David Beckham item of the day

In today’s breaking David Beckham news, one of the soccer star’s new Galaxy teammates told BBC Five Live that Beckham’s $250-million contract had caused resentment on the squad.

“I think, as we all are fans of soccer, he is David Beckham and a wise man told me you’re worth what you negotiate,” midfielder Peter Vagenas said. “But at the same time, of course there’s resentment, I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t.”

Beckham stands to be paid about 500 times more than most of his Galaxy teammates.

“He’s not stealing the money,” Vagenas said. “On the one hand, more power to him, and on the other you say, ‘Why can’t I be getting some of that?’ ”

Arenas stole the bulb!

Lakers forward Luke Walton told Sports Illustrated that Gilbert Arenas was quite the prankster when they were teammates at Arizona.

“Once he snuck into our room and stole the light bulbs,” Walton said. “We thought the electricity was out and we called the maintenance guy.

“He comes in and he’s like, ‘You guys have no light bulbs.’ Then Gilbert came running down the hallway laughing.”

Now when Arenas runs into Walton, he usually just shoots the lights out.

Trivia answer

None. The Baltimore Colts joined the NFL in 1953 and the league, defying geographical logic, placed the team in the Western Division along with the Bears.

The Colts remained there through 1966, before the NFL opted for a four-division format. The Colts were placed in the Coastal Division and the Bears in the Central Division. The Colts qualified for the playoffs in 1968, but the Bears went 7-6-1 in 1967, 7-7 in 1968 and 1-13 in 1969.
