Irvine holds off Long Beach State
Chuma Awaji made all six of his free-throw attempts in the final 15.3 seconds Thursday night and UC Irvine defeated Long Beach State, 88-84, at Irvine.
The Anteaters, 10-11 overall and 4-3 in the Big West Conference, built a 25-point lead in the first half and held off a furious rally by the 49ers (13-6, 4-2).
Mark Kelley led Irvine with 15 points. Patrick Sanders added 14, Nic Campbell 13 and Darren Fells and Michael Hunter had 12 apiece.
Kejuan Johnson had a game-high 23 points for the 49ers.
Cal State Fullerton 84, UC Davis 77 -- Scott Cutley scored a career-high 35 points to lead the Titans (15-4) to a nonconference victory at Fullerton.
Cutley made 14 of 16 shots, including both of his three-point shots, in getting his eighth double-double of the season. He had 12 rebounds and four assists.
Marcus Crenshaw and Bobby Brown scored 16 points apiece, with Brown adding seven assists for the Titans (15-4), who have won five of their last six games.
Thomas Juillerat scored a season-high 22 points for the Aggies (4-14).
Fullerton secured its third consecutive winning season for the first time in 22 years.
UC Santa Barbara 67, Cal State Northridge 57 -- Chris Devine and Alex Harris each had 17 points to lift the Gauchos (12-6, 4-2 Big West) past the Matadors (10-9, 3-3) at Santa Barbara.
