Her brief contemplation phase ended Wednesday and former No. 1 and new mother Lindsay Davenport made it official: She will return to the WTA Tour next month after giving birth June 10 to son Jagger.

Davenport will play doubles with Lisa Raymond at the Pilot Pen tennis tournament in New Haven, Conn., which starts Aug. 19.

The event leads into the U.S. Open in New York. As of now, Davenport has no plans to play in the Open, the final Grand Slam of the year. Speculation among tournament directors is that, if all goes well, Davenport could return to singles action in the fall, either in Asia or Europe.

Davenport, a three-time Grand Slam event winner, last played on the women’s tour in September. She will appear in her first organized matches since giving birth, playing doubles and mixed doubles for World TeamTennis in Sacramento on Saturday.

On a conference call Tuesday, Davenport said she was intrigued by playing in next year’s Summer Olympics. Her choice of Raymond as a partner made sense on the road to Beijing.

“I would imagine that could be a doubles team for the Olympics,” said Davenport’s agent, Tony Godsick.
