Padres lose, 10-2, trade Linebrink
Aaron Cook worked quickly and efficiently.
Cook needed only 74 pitches in his second complete game of the season, leading the Colorado Rockies over the San Diego Padres, 10-2, on Wednesday.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pitcher throw seven frames of single-digit pitches,” Rockies Manager Clint Hurdle said.
Also Wednesday, the Padres traded reliever Scott Linebrink to Milwaukee for three minor league pitchers. The Padres acquired right-hander Will Inman, a third-round pick in June 2005; left-hander Steve Garrison, a 10th-round pick in the same draft; and 25-year-old left-hander Joe Thatcher.
The Rockies’ Matt Holliday tied a career-high with four hits, including a home run and two doubles, and Ryan Spilborghs had a tiebreaking homer and three RBIs.
Cook (7-6) gave up seven hits, struck out two and walked none to win his second consecutive start after going 1-5 in his previous nine outings.
