* at Cleveland 1, Kansas City 0: C.C. Sabathia (9-1) pitched his fifth career shutout to join the Angels’ John Lackey as the majors’ only nine-game winners in helping the Indians increase baseball’s best home record to 20-6.

* Tampa Bay 12, at Toronto 11: Matt Stairs scored the winning run after a bases-loaded walk and the Blue Jays scored six runs in the ninth inning. Adam Lind had a career-high five RBIs, including a three-run homer in the fourth inning, for Toronto.

* at Texas 7, Detroit 4: The Rangers’ Victor Diaz hit a grand slam in the first inning off Nate Robertson, who didn’t retire a batter. Diaz’s shot came after an run-scoring single by Sammy Sosa. Marlon Byrd followed with a triple and Robertson (4-6) was done after six batters and 30 pitches.

* at Oakland 2, Boston 0: Lenny DiNardo (2-2) held his former Red Sox teammates to two hits over six innings and outpitched Daisuke Matsuzaka (7-4) to hand the Red Sox their fifth loss in six games. Eric Chavez homered for Oakland.

* at Seattle 5, Baltimore 4: Ichiro Suzuki sliced a two-out double just inside the left-field line to score Ben Broussard with the go-ahead run to cap a four-run seventh inning for the Mariners, who sent nine batters to the plate.

* New York 7, at Chicago 3: Alex Rodriguez homered and drove in three runs as the Yankees got 17 hits off Mark Buehrle (2-3) and three relievers. The Yankees broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the sixth inning.

* at Angels 5, Minnesota 1: Scott Baker (1-1) fell to 0-3 with a 6.64 earned-run average in four starts against the Angels.
