A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with last month’s stabbing of a duck -- which was released into the wild Thursday after weeks of medical care -- after two other juveniles came forward with information, authorities said.

It was not clear whether the youths witnessed the attack or learned about it through other means.

The Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center of Orange County had posted a $1,000 reward for information about the wounded animal. The youths declined the reward and recommended that it be donated to the group’s animal care fund, said Debbie McGuire, the center’s director.

The boy, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty in juvenile court and released to his parents.

The duck required nearly a month of nursing and rehabilitation.

Nicknamed “Lucky,” the female mallard was returned to Lake Huntington on Thursday.
