* N.Y. Mets 10, Oakland 2: John Maine (8-4) gave up two runs and five hits in seven innings and Jose Valentin had three hits, including a three-run homer, to help the Mets complete their first series sweep at home since Aug. 22-24. Damion Easley also hit a two-run double for New York.

* at Arizona 8, Baltimore 3: Stephen Drew and Chad Tracy homered, Eric Byrnes drove in two runs and the Diamondbacks are alone atop the NL West for the first time since April 30. The victory, coupled with San Diego’s loss to Boston, gave Arizona a one-game lead over the Padres.

* Detroit 5, at Atlanta 0: Andrew Miller (3-1) gave up four hits to lead the Tigers to their seventh straight victory while handing the Braves their fifth straight loss. The Tigers plan to keep Miller in the rotation when Nate Robertson comes off the disabled list Tuesday.

* at Chicago Cubs 3, Chicago White Sox 0: Alfonso Soriano threw out a runner at the plate in the fifth inning and then hit his third home run of the interleague series in the seventh in the Cubs’ sweep. Sean Marshall (4-2) gave up five hits in 6 1/3 innings against the White Sox, who scored twice in the series.

* Minnesota 7, at Flordia 4: Johan Santana (8-6) gave up one earned run in six innings and drove in a run with his first triple. Joe Mauer homered twice for the Twins, who have won both games while scoring 18 runs since losing 2006 AL most-valuable-player Justin Morneau (bruised lung).

* Kansas City 4, at Milwaukee 3 (11 innings): Joey Gathright’s bases-loaded walk on five pitches in the 11th inning off Chris Spurling helped the Royals end a four-game losing streak. Corey Hart hit a solo home run off Kansas City closer Octavio Dotel with one out in the ninth to tie it at 3-3.

* at San Francisco 7, N.Y. Yankees 2: Barry Bonds scored twice on sacrifice flies, Noah Lowry pitched two-hit ball into the sixth inning and the Giants took two of three from the Yankees. Bonds singled, walked twice and stole a base but remained at 749 career home runs.

* at Seattle 3, Cincinnati 2: Ben Broussard hit a two-out, two-run double off Bronson Arroyo in the sixth inning to tie it and Willie Bloomquist executed a perfect suicide squeeze bunt in the seventh to score Yuniesky Betancourt for the Mariners.

* Philadelphia 5, at St. Louis 1: In the only National League game, pinch-hitter Shane Victorino had a tiebreaking three-run double in the eighth inning to lift the Phillies. The Cardinals loaded the bases against Antonio Alfonseca in the ninth, but So Taguchi grounded out to end the game.

* Houston 12, at Texas 9 (10 innings): Craig Biggio’s 2,996th career hit was a tiebreaking RBI double in the 10th inning to help the Astros avoid a sweep. Biggio scored on a single by Lance Berkman, who had a three-run homer.

* Washington 3, Cleveland 1: Jason Simontacchi (5-5) gave up one run and four hits while striking out six in six innings and Jesus Flores drove in two runs for the Nationals. Jake Westbrook (1-3) came off the disabled list and pitched seven solid innings for Cleveland in his first start since May 2.

* at Toronto 5, Colorado 0: The Rockies fell to 0-6 at Toronto while being swept for the first time this season.

* Boston 4, at San Diego 2: Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth for his 18th save in 19 chances for the Red Sox.

* at Angels 4, Pittsburgh 3 (10 innings): The Pirates lost their fifth in row, matching their longest slide of the season.

* at Tampa Bay 9, Dodgers 4: The Dodgers lost despite Luis Gonzalez’s third homer in 10 at-bats against Edwin Jackson.
