Bicycle films on parade at festival

The Bicycle Film Festival, which pays homage to all styles of bikes and biking, pedals into the Vine Theater in Hollywood this weekend for its third year in L.A.

‘The Gay Divorcee’: The movie listings in Thursday’s Calendar Weekend and in Sunday Calendar, as well as the Screening Room column in Calendar Weekend, say the Los Angeles County Museum of Art will show “The Gay Divorcee” at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The screening will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

It starts at 10 tonight with a party at La Cita in downtown L.A. Screening Friday is the Canadian film “Monkey Warfare,” a drama about two ex-activists living in Toronto who sell junk online and ride bikes, along with “BikeCar,” a short about three men who traveled the Northeast in a bike car -- a four-person, pedal-vehicle that’s part bike, part car.

On tap for Saturday afternoon are “Grounded,” a doc short about the world of BMX riding, and “Klunkerz,” a documentary about the modern mountain bike. Slated for Saturday evening are “Ayamye*” and several, ahem, bike shorts.

The latest offering of the AFI/Skirball Cultural Center’s “Cinema Legacy” series is a road movie of a completely different variety: 1973’s “Scarecrow.”

Though the 1970s are considered the last Golden Age of American film, audiences frequently turned up their noses at some of the decade’s more esoteric offerings, including this unjustly neglected gem. Gene Hackman and Al Pacino give luminous performances as two unlikely lost souls who become friends during a road trip. French director Patrice Leconte (“Ridicule,” “The Girl on the Bridge”) will present and discuss the Jerry Schatzberg-directed film this evening at the Skirball.

Also tonight, two Howard Hawks classics are on tap at the Aero as the American Cinematheque kicks off its four-day “Spirit of Adventure” series. A new print of the soaring 1939 “Only Angels Have Wings” will be shown; the film stars Cary Grant, Jean Arthur, and a young Rita Hayworth before she underwent electrolysis to lift her hairline. Screening with it is the restored uncut version of the 1952 western “The Big Sky,” based on A.B. Guthrie Jr.’s novel and starring Kirk Douglas, Dewey Martin and Arthur Hunnicutt, in his Oscar-nominated turn as a mountain man.

Cinespia’s series at Hollywood Forever Cemetery presents the 1953 romantic comedy “Roman Holiday” on Saturday. Audrey Hepburn stars in her Oscar-winning role as a princess on a personal appearance tour in Rome who escapes her keepers to enjoy the Eternal City incognito but is discovered by a handsome newspaper reporter (Gregory Peck).

Elsewhere: The Hollywood Hills will be alive, quite literally, with you-know-what as the Hollywood Bowl presents the fan favorite Sing-A-Long “Sound of Music” on Saturday. Melissa Peterman hosts the event, which will also encourage you to dress up as your favorite character -- so get out your lederhosen.

The Los Angeles Film Festival continues at various locations through Sunday; the closing night film is director Danny Boyle’s “Sunshine.”

L.A. Filmforum offers experimental “new psychedelia” of CalArts graduates David Cohen and Sandy Ding at 7 p.m. Sunday.

LACMA screens “The Gay Divorcee” at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
