A Pittsburg man was being held in lieu of $1-million bail after police seized 3,000 pounds of high-powered fireworks, including commercial types not intended for public sale, from a mobile home park, authorities said.

Keith Dennis Brown, 29, is being held on suspicion of possession of destructive devices, possession of a destructive device in a prohibited place and a health and safety code violation, investigators said.

Thursday’s raid followed a tip from a resident whose son told him someone had tried to sell him fireworks.

Among the hundreds of illegal explosives found were commercial-grade rockets and M-1000s equivalent to a quarter-stick of dynamite.

The fireworks were legally produced elsewhere, but no fireworks are allowed in Contra Costa County, said Robert Davis, supervising fire inspector for the county fire district.

“These can’t be in the hands of the general public,” he said.
