Jokinen’s overtime goal ends Dallas’ win streak

Olli Jokinen scored a power-play goal in overtime and the Florida Panthers defeated the Dallas Stars, 2-1, Thursday night at Sunrise, Fla.

It was the third consecutive overtime win for the Panthers, who started the season 0-13 in overtime and have been in overtime in five of their last six games.

The loss ended a three-game win streak for the Stars.

“We gave them a break on that power play in overtime,” Dallas Coach Dave Tippett said.

Vancouver 4, Phoenix 3 -- Markus Naslund scored with 4:14 left in the third period to lift the host Canucks.

Pittsburgh 4, N.Y. Rangers 3 -- Sidney Crosby scored the only goal of the shootout and Pittsburgh used three special-teams goals in the third period to rally to a victory over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Tampa Bay 5, Washington 4 -- Nick Tarnasky scored the lone shootout goal in the 10th round, goalie Johan Holmqvist was perfect during the tiebreaker and the Lightning opened its longest trip of the season with a victory at Washington.

Philadelphia 4, Boston 3 -- Scottie Upshall scored with 9.9 seconds left in overtime and the Flyers ended a five-game losing streak with a victory at Boston. The Bruins got 51 saves from Tim Thomas.

St. Louis, 3, N.Y. Islanders 2 -- Lee Stempniak’s power-play goal 25 seconds into overtime gave the Blues a come-from-behind victory at Uniondale, N.Y., spoiling the Islanders’ debut of Ryan Smyth, acquired in a trade with Edmonton.

Minnesota 5, Edmonton 0 -- Third-string goalie Josh Harding stopped 30 shots, Pavol Demitra and Marian Gaborik had two goals and an assist apiece and the Wild won at Edmonton, Canada.

Colorado 6, Chicago 1 -- Brad Richardson had a goal and an assist and Peter Budaj stopped 23 shots in the Avalanche’s victory at Chicago.
