Brit-girl rock, Chris Rock, ‘Andy Barker’ rocks (at last!)

Share

What you’ll want to talk about: The young British girls of rock. First there was Lady Sovereign, the skinny-mini white-girl rapper who made beats on her home computer. Next up was Lily Allen (story on Page F13) with her thick bangs and tell-it-like-it-is lyrics. And this week, America gets the latest album from Amy Winehouse -- the white, wounded soul singer who is blowing up in England. All three ladies have a penchant for large gold earrings, and they were all born after 1980. (Tuesday)

What you will be talking about: Chris Rock at the movies. He may be one of the great comedians, but Rock hasn’t delivered big time at the box office. The last movie he carried, “Head of State,” did a reasonable $38 million. That’s good, but not Ferrell or Stiller good. This week he stars in “I Think I Love My Wife.” We’re interested to hear what he says on the publicity circuit, as he started divorce proceedings with his real-life wife of 10 years just a few months ago. (Friday)

Something else to talk about: What’s the story with “Premonition”? This thriller starring Sandra Bullock as a suburban mother dealing with a husband who is alive on some days and dead on others has our minds racing. Is she secretly dead? Are aliens involved? Is she part of some weird social experiment? Some of us want answers more than we want to see the film. (Friday)

What we’ll definitely be talking about: “Andy Barker P.I.” Finally! We’ve known this NBC sitcom starring Andy Richter as a CPA who unwittingly becomes a private eye was coming for months now, and at last it’s here. Conan O’Brien co-created and executive-produced, Tony Hale (Buster from “Arrested Development”) costars, and friends who read the pilot script said it was hilarious. We’ve got some very high hopes. (Thursday).

What nobody will be talking about: “Ghost: Special Collector’s Edition.” Whoopi Goldberg racked up a bunch of awards for her performance in this film (BAFTA, Oscar, Golden Globe). Entertainment Weekly called it “a must-see romance,” and it was selected as one of the American Film Institute’s 100 greatest love stories. But be honest, has anyone seen this since 1992? (Tuesday)
