Floyd is ‘not concerned’ about Mayo

USC Coach Tim Floyd said Sunday he was not concerned by a potentially troubling pattern of incidents involving star recruit O.J. Mayo, who was cited for misdemeanor possession of marijuana Friday in Huntington, W.Va.

“I’m not concerned because I think part of the reason O.J. picked our university was because of the support system we have and because of the family we have, and because of the fact that we’ve had a lot of high-profile athletes over the years and that he knew he would have the family base here to help him in a year of transition as he tries to get himself ready to go play in the NBA,” Floyd said.

Floyd said attempts Sunday to reach Mayo, who faces a court date on the marijuana citation, were unsuccessful.

Mayo was suspended three games in January after being ejected from a game involving his hometown Huntington High in which he made contact with a referee. He also had been suspended three times as a student at Cincinnati North College Hill High.

Floyd said Mayo planned to arrive in Southern California in June to attend a summer-school class.
