Penguins catch Senators in East

Jarkko Ruutu had the only goal in the shootout and the Pittsburgh Penguins tied Ottawa for fourth place in the Eastern Conference with a 4-3 win over the Senators on Sunday night in Pittsburgh.

The victory gives each team 92 points. Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist for the Penguins, who have won five in a row.

Dallas 5, Phoenix 4 -- Mike Ribeiro scored two goals, including the winner with 40 seconds left in overtime, to send the Stars past the visiting Coyotes.

Atlanta 4, Buffalo 3 -- Keith Tkachuk’s power-play goal with 38 seconds left in overtime allowed the Thrashers to extend their winning streak at home to seven games.

Colorado 4, San Jose 3 -- Milan Hejduk scored 19 seconds into overtime and the Avalanche overcame a two-goal deficit to beat the Sharks at Denver. Joe Sakic had four assists for Colorado.

Washington 7, Tampa Bay 1 -- Alexander Semin had a natural hat trick -- three straight goals -- in the second period for the host Capitals.
