Man turns himself in after O.C. shooting
An 18-year-old man turned himself in to Carlsbad police Saturday in connection with the shooting of a man at a party after he discovered that the bullet had also struck his own sister, authorities said.
Humberto Garcia of Morongo Valley had argued for unspecified reasons Friday night with another partygoer in the 300 block of North Mountain View Street in Santa Ana, authorities said.
Just before midnight, Garcia allegedly shot the other man, who police believe is Garcia’s sister’s boyfriend, and fled.
At some point, Garcia was told that the bullet had struck the man and also had grazed Garcia’s sister. Both suffered moderate wounds, said authorities, who did not release their names or ages.
That prompted Garcia to call Carlsbad police about 9:45 p.m. Saturday from a motel in the city, authorities said. He told dispatchers that he had shot someone and that he was not armed.
Carlsbad police arrested him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder and transferred him to Santa Ana.
Garcia was booked into Orange County Jail on $500,000 bail.
