The first wave of off-season activity has begun for the Lakers.

Forward Lamar Odom is scheduled to undergo surgery today in Los Angeles, and three assistant coaches are interviewing for head coaching jobs of other teams.

Odom, 27, will have a torn labrum repaired in his left shoulder, the same procedure he had two years ago that required a four-month recovery period. If the tear isn’t as bad as it was two years ago, Odom’s recovery time would be shorter.

“They’re going to go in and see what the shoulder looks like, but they won’t know until they open him up,” said Odom’s agent, Jeff Schwartz.

Odom missed five games in March because of his shoulder injury and 21 games earlier in the season because of a sprained right knee that could also require surgery at a later date, with a significantly shorter recovery time than his shoulder.

Odom averaged 15.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists a game during the 2006-07 regular season and 19.4 points, 13 rebounds and 2.2 assists in the playoffs.

The Seattle SuperSonics and Sacramento Kings have received permission from the Lakers to interview assistant coach Kurt Rambis for their head coaching jobs, a league source said.

Rambis, 49, has been an assistant with the Lakers for a total of nine seasons, and was the team’s interim head coach in 1999. He coached the team during training camp last October while Phil Jackson was recovering from hip surgery and guided the Lakers to a road victory at Golden State in their second game of the season.

Brian Shaw and Jim Cleamons are also being interviewed for head coach positions, Shaw by Indiana and Sacramento, and Cleamons by Seattle.

Shaw, 41, has been an assistant with the Lakers since midway through the 2004-05 season and was a player for the Lakers during their three-championship run from 2000-2002.

Cleamons, 57, recently completed the first season of his second tour with the Lakers after also serving as an assistant under Jackson from 1999-2004. Cleamons was head coach of the Dallas Mavericks from 1996-98.

Bob Hill was fired after the SuperSonics went 31-51, their worst season since 1985-86. Eric Musselman was fired by the Kings after going 33-49 in his only season as their coach. Rick Carlisle was fired by Indiana after the Pacers failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 1997.
