After five months of considering his options, quarterback Mitch Mustain officially left Arkansas behind and enrolled at USC on Monday.

“I spent one day in class and I love it here,” said Mustain, who started eight games as a freshman last season for the Razorbacks. “I think I made the right choice.”

Mustain, 6 feet 3 and 205 pounds, passed for nearly 900 yards and 10 touchdowns last season for an Arkansas team that lost its opener, 50-14, against USC. The Razorbacks rebounded to finish 10-4 with running back Darren McFadden, a Heisman Trophy finalist, leading the way.

Mustain is the second Arkansas player to transfer to USC since the end of the season. Receiver Damian Williams enrolled in January and is recovering from shoulder surgery. Both will be eligible in 2008.

“We’re excited about him,” Coach Pete Carroll said of Mustain.

“I think it’s a great investment in the future. He won a lot of games at Arkansas playing in a pretty conservative offense for a quarterback.”

With John David Booty in his final year of eligibility, Mustain is expected to push Mark Sanchez, who will be a redshirt sophomore this fall, for the starting job next spring.

“Mark is the likely one to have the edge because he’s been around

“I was kind of trying to get away from the perception of being the guy and expectations that were placed,” he said. “It’s a little bit different game here as far as the expectations. They come a little bit later once you’ve earned your spot. That’s something I was looking for.”

Defensive end Chris Barrett failed to complete the NCAA-required six units during the spring semester and is ineligible for the 2007 season, Carroll said. Barrett, a senior, would have backed up Fili Moala.... Running back Michael Coleman, who received his release to transfer, said he had not yet decided where he would attend school, but that he probably would enroll in the spring.

Speeding up the first two rounds of the NFL draft and deciding on a site for the 2011 Super Bowl will be the focus of team owners when they convene in Nashville today for their annual May meetings.

A month after a record six-hour, eight-minute first round, the league will consider trimming the time teams are given to make their selections in the opening two rounds. As it is, they are allowed 15 minutes per pick in the first round, and 10 minutes each in the second. Three groups are competing for the 2011 Super Bowl: Indianapolis, North Texas, and Glendale, Ariz.
