* East Carolina 56, at Memphis 40: Chris Johnson rushed for a career-high 301 yards and four touchdowns as the Pirates (6-4, 5-1) held onto the top spot in Conference USA’s East Division with a victory over the Tigers (4-5, 3-2). Johnson scored on runs of 16, 44, 70 and 50 yards as he racked up his rushing stats in 20 carries. East Carolina had 491 yards on the ground. Johnson’s rushing total was the second-highest in school history, trailing only Scott Harley, who ran for 351 yards against North Carolina State in 1996.

* at Rice 56, Texas El Paso 48: Chase Clement threw six touchdown passes and ran for two more and the Owls (2-7, 2-3) scored the last 28 points in beating the Miners (4-5, 2-3) in a C-USA game at Houston. Clement, who set a conference record by accounting for eight touchdowns, completed 32 of 58 passes for 395 yards and ran for 103 yards. The six passing touchdowns set a Rice record and tied the conference mark, and his 498 total yards were a school record.

* at Central Florida 47, Marshall 13: Kevin Smith rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns as the Knights (6-3, 4-1) beat the Thundering Herd (1-8, 1-4) in a C-USA game at Orlando. Smith -- the second-leading rusher in the nation going into the game -- had 29 carries, including an 87-yard touchdown run.

* Southern Mississippi 37, at Alabama Birmingham 7: Jeremy Young marked his return to the starting lineup by throwing a pair of touchdown passes to Ed Morgan to lead the Golden Eagles (5-4, 4-2) over the Blazers (2-7, 1-4) in a C-USA game. Southern Miss blew the game open with a 27-point second quarter.

* Tulsa 49, at Tulane 25: Paul Smith threw for three touchdowns and ran for two others to help the Golden Hurricane (6-3, 4-2) defeat the Green Wave (2-7, 1-4) in a C-USA game at New Orleans. Smith was 18-for-27 passing for 319 yards and his touchdown passes included a 52-yard strike to Brennan Marion and a 37-yarder to Trae Johnson.

* at Miami (Ohio) 31, Buffalo 28: Daniel Raudabaugh passed for two touchdowns and Cory Jones rushed for 125 yards to lead the RedHawks (5-5, 4-1) over the Bulls (4-6, 4-2) in a Mid-American Conference game at Oxford.

* at Toledo 52, Eastern Michigan 28: Jalen Parmele rushed for 168 yards and three touchdowns as the Rockets (5-5, 3-3) rolled to a 21-point first-half lead and outlasted the Eagles (3-7, 2-3) in a MAC game at Toledo, Ohio. Parmele scored the Rockets’ first two touchdowns on runs of 31 yards in the first quarter and 29 yards in the second.

* at Arkansas State 27, Florida International 24: Josh Arauco kicked a 31-yard field goal with two seconds left to give the Indians (4-5, 2-3) the victory over the Panthers (0-9, 0-4) in a Sun Belt Conference game at Jonesboro. Florida International has the nation’s longest Division I losing streak at 21 games.

* Middle Tennessee 43, at Louisiana Monroe 40: Bradley Robinson returned a kickoff 89 yards to lift the Blue Raiders (5-5, 4-1) over the Warhawks (3-6, 3-3) in a Sun Belt game. Middle Tennessee has won four games in a row.

* Western Kentucky 28, at Chattanooga 21: Marell Booker fought his way into the end zone from 12 yards out with 53 seconds left to lift the Hilltoppers (6-3) over the Mocs (2-7) at Chattanooga, Tenn.
