GLENDALE, Ariz. -- If Mathieu Schneider is providing an instant impact while working his way into the lineup, the Ducks can only imagine what he’ll bring when he feels at home.

In his second game with his new team after coming back from injury, Schneider helped the Ducks out of their deep offensive funk with a goal and two assists in a 5-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes for their second win in a row Saturday night at Jobing.com Arena.

Corey Perry scored his team-leading seventh and eighth goals of the season, Brad May got his first and Ryan Getzlaf had a power-play goal as the Ducks (6-7-2) claimed their first road victory in seven tries this season.

“We felt that this group can play on the road,” Ducks Coach Randy Carlyle said. “We know that. We don’t really look at it as a monkey off our back. We just made a statement that we had to have a starting point for the road. Tonight was a nice effort on our behalf.”

The 38-year-old Schneider seems as if he is making up for lost time after missing the first 13 games of the season because a broken bone in his left ankle.

Two nights after providing the winning shootout goal in a 2-1 win over Columbus, Schneider put the Ducks on the scoreboard 11:43 into the first period with their first power-play goal since defenseman Chris Pronger scored against Dallas five games ago.

The Ducks, who were 28th in the NHL on the power play before the game, hadn’t scored with an extra man in their previous 21 tries until the veteran defenseman buried a slap shot off Phoenix goaltender Alex Auld while on a two-man advantage.

Pronger said Schneider is “a guy that’s got a ton of experience. He’s got a great shot and real good vision. Good things are going to happen for sure.”

Perry said the early goal was important for the Ducks’ confidence. They hadn’t scored more than two goals in their last five games and had netted only six non-shootout goals during that span.

“The power play hasn’t clicked at all this year,” Perry said. “To get a huge power-play goal at the start of the game and to have the lead early and play with a lead, that was a big confidence boost. The guys feel a little pressure coming off us.”

The Ducks took control with two second-period goals for a 3-0 lead. Perry fished out a rebound left by Auld and backhanded it in past the Coyotes’ goaltender, who shut them out in Anaheim last week.

May got his first goal since Feb. 28, 2006, with Colorado when he deflected in a point shot from Schneider. Perry also got an assist for his first three-point game this season.

“Hopefully it’s a stepping stone for what’s going to come,” Perry said.

Pronger had three assists in a game for the second time this season and Getzlaf also had his second three-point game. The Ducks scored two power-play goals for the third time in the first 15 games.

Pronger earned his first points since the game against Dallas and his first multi-point night since getting three assists Oct. 15 against Detroit. Getzlaf also had his first multi-point game since that victory over the Red Wings.

That support was more than enough for goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who stopped 30 shots for his second consecutive win. Radim Vrbata and Ed Jovanovski scored for Phoenix in the third period.

The Ducks head home to continue their sojourn through the Pacific Division on Monday against Dallas.

“We’ve got to get a string of good games together and not just one here and one there,” Pronger said. “We’ve put two together and now we’ve got to get the third one on Monday.”
