Redskins could face Eagles without Moss

Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El were unable to practice Friday, putting the Washington Redskins in a perilous position at wide receiver for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Moss is sidelined because of a bruised heel and is listed as questionable on the injury report, but neither Moss nor Coach Joe Gibbs was optimistic that it would heal sufficiently before game time.

“Same that it felt all week. Sore. Hurts. Painful,” Moss said. “I couldn’t tell you yes or no right now. It’s one of those things where I’ll just have to see how it feels on Sunday.”

Randle El has had a relapse of a nagging hamstring injury. He is listed as probable, but the injury probably will have an effect on his speed if he plays. The Redskins are the only team in the NFL without a touchdown pass to a wide receiver this season, and Moss and Randle El are the only ones who have been somewhat productive.

The other wide receivers on the roster -- James Thrash, Keenan McCardell, Brandon Lloyd and Reche Caldwell -- have combined to catch only nine passes through eight games.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, who was knocked out last week with a concussion, is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game at Green Bay.

Brooks Bollinger will start if Jackson doesn’t, but Coach Brad Childress said he will wait to reveal his starter for the third time in nine games. In two other weeks this season, he hinted at his choice but stopped short of announcing it.

Jackson and Bollinger have shared time at the position in practice this week. Jackson said he hasn’t had any significant effects from the injury, but Bollinger has played well in relief in three games and is the favorite to start.

Two defensive starters and a key offensive player were listed as questionable: defensive end Ray Edwards (foot), cornerback Antoine Winfield (hamstring) and wide receiver Sidney Rice (hamstring).

Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth will be a game-time decision Sunday after sitting out his third consecutive practice because of a right hamstring injury.

“We still haven’t ruled him out,” Coach Jeff Fisher said. “He can play without practicing. The decision will be based on how he is before game time.”

Haynesworth hasn’t practiced all week after injuring his hamstring with about three minutes left against the Carolina Panthers last Sunday.

Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers and linebacker Na’il Diggs were fined $5,000 each by the NFL for actions during last Sunday’s 20-7 loss to Tennessee.

Peppers hit tackle David Stewart in the face after the whistle. It was one of two personal fouls called against Peppers, who also was flagged for a late hit out of bounds.

Diggs was fined for a 15-yard taunting penalty he drew after Deke Cooper’s interception in the third quarter.

The Denver Broncos released veteran defensive lineman Simeon Rice before the end of practice Friday. The 33-year-old Rice signed a one-year, $3 million contract on Sept. 3.

Rice chose Denver over St. Louis in part because of the opportunity to get more playing time after starter Ebenezer Ekuban sustained a season-ending Achilles’ injury in training camp.

New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress did not practice and was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. He has not taken part in practice for most of the season while dealing with a nagging right ankle injury he sustained during training camp.

Cleveland Browns guard Seth McKinney (shoulder injury) will not play against the Pittsburgh Steelers and guard Eric Steinbach, who strained his back during practice on Wednesday, was listed as questionable. Ryan Tucker most likely will start in McKinney’s place. Lennie Friedman would start if Steinbach is unavailable.
