7 pedestrians are struck by car in South L.A.
Seven pedestrians crossing a street in South Los Angeles were struck by a car and injured Sunday night, authorities said.
Officials said the accident occurred on East Vernon Avenue near Wall Street and was reported at 8:25 p.m.
Five of the victims were described as being in critical but stable condition, and the other two suffered minor injuries.
Most of those hurt were children, officials said, although at least one adult was among those critically injured.
Police spokesman Mike Lopez said the driver, a 67-year-old man, remained at the scene and did not appear to be driving under the influence.
No charges are anticipated.
