Joey Bullen kicked a 29-yard field goal in the second overtime and Navy then held as Pittsburgh gambled by going for a winning touchdown on fourth down when a chip-shot field goal would have forced another overtime, giving the Midshipmen a 48-45 victory Wednesday night at Pittsburgh.

The Panthers, 2-4 overall, lost their fourth in a row despite freshman LeSean McCoy’s 165 rushing yards and three touchdowns in an almost defense-free game.

The Midshipmen improved to 4-2. Navy quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada ran for 122 yards and a score and threw for another.

Stanford Coach Jim Harbaugh said Tavita Pritchard will remain the team’s starting quarterback Saturday against Texas Christian even though T.C. Ostrander had been cleared to play after a seizure caused him to miss the USC game. . . . Oregon State receiver and punt returner Sammie Stroughter will not return this season and the Beavers plan to seek a medical redshirt for him. Stroughter was diagnosed with a bruised kidney after the Arizona State game three weeks ago.
