* at No. 11 Ohio State 38, Youngstown State 6: Todd Boeckman played well in his first start replacing Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith and the Buckeyes made just about all the big plays in winning at Columbus. Boeckman passed for 225 yards and two touchdowns.

* at No. 17 Penn State 59, Florida International 0: Linebacker Sean Lee led a fierce defense with seven tackles, a forced fumble and a sack, and Anthony Morelli threw for three touchdowns to lead the Nittany Lions at State College.

* Missouri 40, Illinois 34: Chase Daniel threw three touchdown passes, Cornelius Brown intercepted a pass at the one-yard line with 51 seconds to play, and the Tigers won at St. Louis.

* at Michigan State 55, Alabama Birmingham 18: Jehuu Caulcrick ran for 93 yards and four touchdowns as the Spartans rolled at East Lansing in Coach Mark Dantonio’s debut.

* Iowa 16, Northern Illinois 3: Senior Albert Young carried 23 times for 144 yards and a touchdown to lead the Hawkeyes at Soldier Field in Chicago.

* at Indiana 55, Indiana State 7: Kellen Lewis threw touchdown passes of 58 and 79 yards to lead the Hoosiers at Bloomington in their first game since the death of coach Terry Hoeppner.

* Bowling Green 32, at Minnesota 31 (OT): Tyler Sheehan’s two-point conversion pass to Freddie Barnes in overtime lifted the Falcons over the Gophers at Minneapolis.
