Philadelphia 5, at Atlanta 2: Ryan Howard hit his 37th homer and Kyle Lohse quieted the Braves offense to help the Phillies end a three-game losing streak. Howard, the 2006 National League MVP, made it 2-0 in the first with his 15th career homer off the Braves and sixth at Turner Field. Chipper Jones hit his 23rd homer for Atlanta, which has lost four of five and 10 of 14.

at Colorado 6, San Francisco 5: Brad Hawpe singled in the game-winning run with one out in the ninth inning to lift the Rockies to their third win in a row. With their fifth victory in six games, the Rockies improved to a season-high six games over .500. Todd Helton was three for three with two walks and an RBI double and Troy Tulowitzki hit a solo homer, his 19th, for Colorado.

New York 11, at Cincinnati 7: Paul Lo Duca hit a pair of three-run homers to lead the Mets to their fifth victory in a row. The NL East leaders have regained control of their division with their longest winning streak of the season.

at St. Louis 6, Pittsburgh 2: Chris Duncan hit a three-run double to back Joel Pineiro. Russell Branyan homered for the Cardinals in his first start since being acquired from the Phillies four days earlier.

at Milwaukee 5, Houston 3: Rookie Ryan Braun homered and Francisco Cordero set a franchise record with his 40th save. Carlos Villanueva pitched six solid innings in his first start as a member of the Brewers’ rotation. His outing ruined the comeback of Houston’s Brandon Backe, making his first start in more than a year after undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery.

at Washington 4, Florida 3: Jesus Flores’ two-run, ninth-inning double gave the Nationals the win.

at Arizona 9, San Diego 1: Tony Clark and Eric Byrnes homered as the Diamondbacks pulled to within .001 of the division-leading Padres.

Dodgers 6, at Chicago 2: Brad Penny earned his 15th victory, Matt Kemp had four hits and the Dodgers spoiled Steve Trachsel’s return to the Cubs.
