at No. 9 Wisconsin 37, Michigan State 34: P.J. Hill ran for 155 yards and two touchdowns, and the Badgers (5-0, 2-0) extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 14 by holding off the Spartans (4-1, 0-1) at Madison. Wisconsin seemed in complete control late in the third quarter after Hill ran for his second touchdown from a yard out to give his team a 34-24 lead. But Michigan State answered with 10 straight points, first off Brian Hoyer’s three-yard touchdown pass to Mark Dell to cap a 13-play drive with 13:54 to play. Wisconsin, which has now won 22 of its last 23 at home, retook the lead after Michigan State had three costly penalties, the final one a defensive holding call in the end zone. Hill, who had 34 carries, couldn’t punch it in from inside the one and Taylor Mehlhaff kicked a 22-yard field goal, his third of the day, to give the Badgers a 37-34 lead with 6:15 left.

No. 8 Ohio State 30, at Minnesota 7: Chris Wells rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns, and the defense didn’t budge for the Buckeyes (5-0, 2-0) in a win over the Gophers (1-4, 0-2) at Minneapolis. Ohio State has given up only 34 points in five easy victories, making life much easier for new quarterback Todd Boeckman. He wasn’t great, but he threw for two scores and didn’t turn the ball over. Boeckman threw a perfect pass to Brian Robiskie for a 52-yard touchdown with 57 seconds left in the first half that made it 20-7.

Michigan 28, at Northwestern 16: Chad Henne passed to Adrian Arrington with the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter after a fumble recovery, and the Wolverines (3-2, 2-0) rallied to beat the Wildcats (2-3, 0-2) at Evanston, Ill. The win was the third straight for Michigan after an 0-2 start that included a shocking upset by Appalachian State.

Indiana 38, at Iowa 20: Kellen Lewis threw two touchdown passes and was officially credited with a third when he ran 71 yards after picking up a teammate’s fumble, leading the Hoosiers (4-1, 1-1) over the Hawkeyes (2-3, 0-2) at Iowa City. Lewis made a play almost every time Indiana needed one as the Hoosiers extended Iowa’s losing streak in conference play to seven.
