Let’s see the green

Not to be cynical, but what is Earth Day but a retail opportunity? This Tuesday, you can recycle, shop and gawk -- and save the planet!

At the top of the ticket, not that we’d actually print one, is the opening of HLNR, Lorenzo Hadar’s new green boutique on Robertson Boulevard. Designed by Oliviero Baldini, who seems to be channeling the ultra-cool green BP gas station just down the street, the silvery store is solar-powered, stocked with sustainable hangers (though not purely sustainable merchandise) and completely paperless. Shoppers who pay for, say, Zac Posen cocktail dresses and DSquared leather jackets will get an e-mail receipt. Of course, there won’t be any of those paper mailers, either.

Not impressed? The bathroom is equipped with battery-powered eco-faucets, Dyson hand dryers and, well, let’s just say other fixtures that render toilet paper obsolete.

The one place paper can be found is in the Kohzo denim, which is made from pineapple, bamboo and traditional Japanese paper.

Well, there and in the cash drawer.

HLNR opens April 28. 474 N. Robertson Blvd., Los Angeles. (310) 659-1434. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
