New York 5, at Texas 3: Jason Giambi hit a fourth-inning home run -- his 22nd -- and Sidney Ponson (7-2), released by the Rangers in June, gave up three runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Boston 8, at Kansas City 2: Jacoby Ellsbury hit a three-run home run and knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (7-8) limited the Royals to four hits through six innings.
at Chicago 5, Detroit 1: Jim Thome hit a three-run home run and John Danks (9-4) worked efficiently into the seventh inning for the White Sox.
at Toronto 5, Oakland 1: Rod Barajas hit a three-run home run and Shaun Marcum pitched seven strong innings to help extend the Athletics’ skid to nine games.
at Tampa Bay 10, Cleveland 7: Carlos Pena’s three-run homer capped a six-run rally in the ninth inning for the Rays.
at Angels 9, Baltimore 4: Vladimir Guerrero homered and drove in four runs, and teammate Garret Anderson had three hits and two runs batted in.
