Southwest Airlines says it plans next year to drop six flights from San Diego’s Lindbergh Field.

The airline says the cuts are part of nationwide cutbacks prompted by a declining economy, high oil prices and the difficulties of winter travel.

Southwest spokesman Chris Mainz says the airline is cutting two flights from San Diego to Oakland and one flight each to Albuquerque, Washington, Chicago and Sacramento.

Nationwide, Mainz says, Southwest plans to reduce its daily schedule early next year by 190 flights.
