at Boston 94, New Orleans 82: Paul Pierce scored 28 points and Kevin Garnett had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Celtics to their 14th consecutive victory. The defending NBA champions took the lead with a 17-4 run early in the third quarter.

at Phoenix 113, Orlando 112: Grant Hill made a reverse layup with 2.7 seconds left to lift the Suns to a victory over the Magic. Jason Richardson scored 21 points in his Phoenix debut. Dwight Howard scored 19 points in 22 minutes for Orlando before leaving with 8:36 left in the third quarter because of a sore left knee.

Houston 119, at Golden State 108 : Tracy McGrady just missed a triple-double in his return to the court, and Yao Ming had 19 points and 14 rebounds in the Rockets’ victory. McGrady had 24 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.

at Cleveland 88, Philadelphia 72: LeBron James scored 28 points and Anderson Varejao had 17 in his first start this season as the Cavaliers matched a club record with their 11th consecutive victory.

Toronto 101, at New Jersey 79: The Raptors capitalized on Vince Carter’s 0-for-13 shooting to beat the Nets. Carter finished with three points against his former team in the first game in his career in which he failed to make a shot from the field when playing at least 10 minutes.

San Antonio 98, at Minnesota 86: Tony Parker and Tim Duncan each scored 17 points to help the Spurs to their fifth consecutive victory. The Timberwolves have lost eight in a row and three straight since Kevin McHale took over as coach.

Atlanta 87, at Miami 73: Joe Johnson scored 21 points, and Mike Bibby and Josh Smith each had 15 as the Hawks ended a three-game losing streak.

at Memphis 103, Chicago 96: Rudy Gay scored 29 points and Hakim Warrick had 21 as the Grizzlies extended their winning streak to three games. O.J. Mayo scored 14 for Memphis.

at Detroit 114, Indiana 110: Richard Hamilton scored 28 points and Allen Iverson had 17 points and 12 assists for the Pistons. The Pacers got a career-high 42 points from Danny Granger.
