Los Angeles police on Sunday were investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a robbery suspect dead after a confrontation near MacArthur Park.

The unidentified man was shot and killed at Park View Street and Ocean View Avenue about 3:30 p.m. Saturday by one of two officers responding to a report that an armed man had tried to rob three people in separate incidents, police said.

The two officers spotted the man near the park and told him, in English and Spanish, to drop his gun, police said. When he refused and pointed the gun toward the officers, one of them fired a round, striking the man in the upper body.

The man, identified only as a Latino in his 20s, was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. His name was not released Sunday pending notification of his family, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said.

No one else was injured in the incident or in the earlier attempted robberies, police said.
