The write stuff

Share

One would think that the L.A. Times would be supportive of and write positive front-page columns about our local sports teams, not their opponents. For example, David Wharton’s recent pre-Rose Bowl columns extolling the wonders of the Illinois football team belong in the Chicago Tribune, not the L.A. Times. Bill Plaschke’s Jan. 6 article titled “Pocket Full of Miracles” is a boring rehash of USC’s loss to Stanford. The column was about as interesting to L.A. sports fans as reading about last week’s spelling bee in the Palo Alto School District.

I am a lifelong UCLA Bruins fan (wink, wink) who has decided not to root for the UCLA basketball team anymore. They are very unsportsmanlike. After dismantling all the teams they play, they are very celebratory and as such I hereby relinquish my lifetime loyalty as a lifetime Bruins fan.

Oh sure. Who would believe that . . . besides the L.A. Times?
