Nashville 5, at St. Louis 2 -- Scott Nichol scored two short-handed goals and the Predators beat the Blues for the first time this season in four tries. The Blues lost their fourth game in a row.

at Toronto 4, Buffalo 2 -- Alex Steen and Nik Antropov each had a goal and an assist, and the Maple Leafs held on for their third win in a row. It’s only the second time this season the Maple Leafs have won at least three games in a row.

Tampa Bay 2, at Ottawa 0 -- Martin St. Louis scored the winning goal, during a power play, and Johan Holmqvist made 25 saves to earn his second shutout in two nights. Holmqvist was busy in the second period, when the Senators had 12 shots on goal.

Philadelphia 5, at New York Islanders 3 -- Scott Hartnell’s third goal, on a power play, broke a 3-3 tie and completed his second hat trick this month. Martin Biron made 28 saves to earn his 17th win.

Detroit 6, at San Jose 3 -- Kris Draper scored a short-handed goal, and Nicklas Lidstrom and Tomas Holmstrom had power-play goals for the Red Wings in a penalty-filled second period.

at Boston 4, New York Rangers 3 (SO) -- Zdeno Chara and Phil Kessel scored shootout goals and Chuck Kobasew had two goals in regulation to beat the Rangers, who suffered their fifth consecutive road defeat.

at Dallas 3, Columbus 1 -- Mike Smith made 29 saves and kept the Stars afloat in the second period when the Blue Jackets dominated with a 14-2 shot advantage but scored only once. Columbus’ winning streak ended at four games.

Pittsburgh 2, at Montreal 0 -- Dany Sabourin made 31 saves for his second shutout and Jeff Taffe scored in the first period. Sabourin, who got his first career shutout in a 5-0 win in New Jersey on Nov. 5, made his first appearance since Dec. 21.

at Washington 5, Florida 3 -- Rookie center Nicklas Backstrom had a career-high four assists, Viktor Kozlov scored two goals and Alex Ovechkin scored his 36th goal to help the Capitals reach the .500 mark for the first time in nearly three months.

Chicago 2, at Phoenix 1 (SO) -- Patrick Lalime had 38 saves, then blocked all three shots in a shootout to lead the Blackhawks to their fourth consecutive victory. Patrick Kane and Martin Havlat scored in the shootout.

Kings 4, at Vancouver 3 -- Jason LaBarbera stopped 43 shots for the Kings, who built a three-goal lead and then hung on when the Canucks rallied within a goal twice.
