Cal State Fullerton gets past UC Riverside, 72-61
Marcio Lassiter scored a career-high 17 points and Junior Russell had 16 to lead host Cal State Fullerton over UC Riverside, 72-61, Wednesday night.
The Titans improved to 12-6 overall and 5-2 in the Big West Conference, and completed a season sweep of the Highlanders (4-13, 1-5), who got 14 points from Larry Cunningham and 13 from Sean Cunningham.
Fullerton played without its leading scorer, Josh Akognon, who averages 21 points a game but was sidelined because of a sprained finger on his shooting hand.
The Highlanders shot only 39% from the field, including 29% in the first half. The Titans shot 50% from the field and made 20 of 25 free throws.
Cal State Bakersfield 80, Long Beach State 77 (OT) -- Terrence Johns scored 20 points, including five in overtime, and the Roadrunners (7-13) earned their fourth consecutive road victory.
Donavan Morris’ basket with 41 seconds to play cut Bakersfield’s lead to 79-77. But the 49ers (4-13) turned the ball over with nine seconds to go.
Morris scored a game-high 27 points.
Trent Blakley scored 19 points for the Roadrunners, including a three-point basket with 6.7 seconds to play in regulation to force overtime.
