San Antonio Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich decided to rest Tony Parker indefinitely, against the point guard’s wishes, because of a bone spur in his left heel.

“He was told he was going to get better, but he’s gotten worse,” Popovich said Tuesday before San Antonio played at Seattle. “I don’t know how long it’s going to be, but he’s going to sit.

“He doesn’t like it, but this is the way it’s going to be.”

Parker has played through pain for six weeks. Jacques Vaughn replaced him Tuesday at Seattle in the second game of a nine-game trip.

Parker, averaging 19.2 points and 6.1 assists, missed four games in December in which the Spurs went 1-3.

Golden State Warriors Coach Don Nelson said he had no reservations about reacquiring Chris Webber 13 years after the two clashed and Webber asked for and received a trade.

The free-agent forward signed a contract, returning to the team that drafted him in 1993. No details were disclosed. Nelson said he hoped Webber, 34, would be ready for a Feb. 7 game against Chicago.

The Warriors waived guard Troy Hudson.

The Memphis Grizzlies suspended forward Stromile Swift for one game for conduct detrimental to the team.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that Swift stood and leaned over Coach Marc Iavaroni before walking to the end of the bench after he was removed from Monday’s game against Dallas after playing only 1 minute 45 seconds.
