at New York 9, Toronto 8: Pinch-hitter Jason Giambi hit a two-run homer with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning. The drive, on an 0-2 pitch from closer B.J. Ryan into the right-field upper deck, capped a rally from a 7-2 deficit. It was the Yankees’ biggest comeback this season. “I was prepared for his getting on base,” Manager Joe Girardi said. “I wasn’t prepared for him to hit it into the upper deck.” Ryan blew his second consecutive save chance after starting the season 12 for 12.

Baltimore 3, at Minnesota 2: Adam Jones, acquired as the top prospect in the off-season trade that sent All-Star pitcher Erik Bedard to Seattle, led off the seventh inning with a tiebreaking home run. With the score 2-2, Jones hit a hanging slider into the left-field seats, his 10th home run of the season.

at Texas 9, Cleveland 4: The Indians roughed up Rangers pitching for 35 runs and 48 hits in the first three games of the series, then scored four more in the first inning. Kevin Millwood settled in after that, retiring 15 in a row. The Rangers’ Michael Young homered and extended his hitting streak to 21 games.

at Chicago 6, Kansas City 2: Jose Contreras won his fourth consecutive decision and White Sox completed a three-game sweep. Orlando Cabrera’s two-run single capped a four-run second inning for the White Sox, who lead Minnesota by 2 1/2 games in the Central Division. Contreras (6-3) yielded one run and four hits in seven innings. He hasn’t lost since May 4.

at Boston 7, Tampa Bay 1: Manny Ramirez’s three-run homer -- the 503rd home run of his career -- gave the Red Sox a 3-0 first-inning lead en route to victory.
