Man dies trying to save daughter
A man vacationing with his family at the Russian River died after entering the water in an attempt to save his daughter.
Monte Rio Fire Chief Steve Baxman said Carlos Manzo, 39, of Oakland was trying to help his 10-year-old daughter, who was having trouble swimming.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department said a bystander rushed into the river to save the girl, but when she went back to help Manzo, he was gone.
A firefighter later found Manzo in the river and tried to resuscitate him, but he had been underwater too long.
