An all-right season for Lakers

Share

In assessing the Lakers’ dramatic turnaround, it’s time to give credit where credit is due: to everyone.

Kobe was right for sending strong messages saying he wanted to be a Laker but only if they got one solid player to bring them a championship.

Mitch Kupchak was right in believing in the evolving talents of Bynum, Farmar and Vujacic. Also for getting a great player (Gasol), losing little in the short term, and for not trading Kobe because he couldn’t get equal value.

Buss was right in telling Kobe he was still just an employee and that Buss would do what’s best for his Lakers franchise.

Derek Fisher was right in coming back to L.A.

And finally, Lakers fans were right in booing Kobe, but only one time.

After much criticism of Mitch Kupchak, I must now acknowledge and praise his recent trades. However, paying Luke Walton $6 million a year for six points and three rebounds per game still nags at me.

Isn’t it time the world acknowledges former Laker Byron Scott as one of the NBA’s finest coaches?

Although he hasn’t won a championship as a coach yet, he turned the New Jersey Nets into title contenders, and now has turned the New Orleans Hornets into one of the league’s top three teams; neither team was even on the radar prior to hiring him as its coach.

Los Angeles is proud of you, Coach Scott!
