A-LISTERS feted the opening of the Broad Contemporary Art Museum a month ago, and now LACMA and W magazine got the fashionistas involved with an Avant-Garde gala March 8 to encourage young philanthropy. 1. My Barbarian took to the stairs to exhibit its own brand of performance art -- feather duster and all -- and magician David Malek set out to shock and awe with his sleight-of-hand handiwork. While the LA Flash slide show documented the city’s eclectic 1973 street style, several partygoers opted for similar black-and-white duds, including 2. Brittany Murphy, 3. Rashida Jones, left, with fellow host committee member Ginnifer Goodwin, and 4. Ali Larter.

A kiss from a ‘Desperate’ lady

The name of Eva Longoria Parker’s new restaurant, Beso, means “kiss” in Spanish, but 5. she and pal Sheryl Crow, left, opted to hug at the opening in Hollywood on March 6. Although husband Tony Parker bowed out to help his Spurs beat the Pacers, her onscreen mate, Ricardo Chivara, happily filled in. Also showing Longoria Parker some love: “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry and Wisteria Lane leading ladies Nicolette Sheridan, Felicity Huffman and Dana Delany, who headed straight to the bar upon realizing she was the first to arrive. Thankfully, the Hornitos tequila cocktails ranneth over (although glasses were in short supply), and Longoria Parker made sure guests, including same-last-named 6. George Lopez, left, and Mario Lopez had their fill of her artichoke guacamole along with the Mediterranean-inspired food from owner and chef Todd English.

Crawfords at Varvatos

Designer John Varvatos specializes in menswear, but last Sunday he opened the doors of his West Hollywood boutique to focus on kids for his sixth annual Stuart House benefit, which raised more than $450,000 for child victims of sexual abuse. 7. Presley Crawford, with his model mom, Cindy, who hosted the affair with hubby Rande, showed off his flair for design at an outdoor Converse decorating station, while the storytelling corner boasted the likes of Angie Harmon and well-prepared father of five Justin Chambers, who brought along his children’s favorite book: “I Love You Stinky Face.” Grown-up fare included a 45-minute Cheap Trick performance, with surprise guests Alice Cooper and Wayne Kramer of MC5.

‘Who’ can hear him now?

8. Jim Carrey got on the horn at the premiere of his Dr. Seuss flick “Horton Hears a Who” March 8 at the Mann Village in Westwood and entertained screaming fans, some outfitted in orange shirts and elephant ears. As stars including Steve Carell, Jaime Pressley and Carol Burnett arrived on the orange carpet, confetti shot out of cannons while the Who’s “Who Are You” blasted. After the pre-party of sorts, guests including Victoria Beckham and her kids, settled into their seats, where they were showered with candy.
