Two California Highway Patrol officers were hospitalized Thursday after their patrol car was rammed by a suspected drunk driver on the northbound 5 Freeway.
The officers were responding to a two-vehicle crash on the freeway near Western Avenue about 12:15 a.m. when, about 15 minutes after they arrived, a car rammed them from behind, said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos.
The CHP officers, whose names were not released, were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Villalobos said.
The patrol car sustained major damage and had to be towed away. Several lanes were closed during the crash investigation but were reopened within about two hours.
