Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard C. Parks, locked in a race for county supervisor, canceled campaign events for several hours Friday after his brother was hospitalized with a stroke.

Arthur Parks was in intensive care at a Los Angeles-area hospital, according to Parks’ chief of staff and son, Bernard Parks Jr.

The hospitalization of Parks’ older brother came just days after their father, Earl Parks, died at age 87.

The former chief of the Los Angeles Police Department and two-term city councilman canceled his campaign appearances Monday because of his father’s death.

On Friday evening, Parks resumed his campaign. He was scheduled to appear with former City Councilman Nate Holden, County Supervisor Gloria Molina and other supporters for get-out-the-vote activities.
