‘Defiance’s’ source material

I enjoyed reading Michael Ordona’s article on Ed Zwick’s film “Defiance” [“The Cold, Hard Facts of Making ‘Defiance,’ ” Nov. 2] but was surprised that he neglected to mention that the film is based on the book “Defiance” by my mother, Holocaust scholar Nechama Tec. Zwick optioned her book to make the film. Her book was based on years of research and interviews with survivors of the Bielski partisan group.
