A gunman, driving with an infant in the back seat of his car, opened fire Wednesday afternoon on three people in Baldwin Village in what police described as a gang-related shooting.

The suspect was arrested shortly after the incidentabout 3 p.m. on Pinafore Street, said Capt. James Craig of the Los Angeles Police Department. The gunman fired 15 shots, but no one was injured.

“He didn’t hit anybody, fortunately,” Craig said.

Undercover officers were in the neighborhood at the time and immediately responded, he said.

The 6-month-old boy in the suspect’s car was unharmed, Craig said. The boy was turned over to the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services, he said.

“This is the first time I’ve heard about a drive-by shooting with a toddler,” he said. “And I’ve seen a lot.”
