“The Tale of Peter Rabbit”

Beatrix Potter

This book is about four rabbits named Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail and Peter. They lived with their mother under the root of a very big fir tree. One day before their mother left for market, she told them to not go into Mr. McGregor’s garden, and reminded them what happened to their father. She said, “Mrs. McGregor made a pie out of your father.”

While their mother was gone, they decided to walk down to the lane to collect blackberries. Peter was naughty and decided to run straight into Mr. McGregor’s garden to eat his lettuce, beans and radishes. Suddenly, Peter ate so much that he got a tummy ache. He remembered that parsley was good for a tummy ache and ate that too. As he was eating the parsley, Mr. McGregor saw him. He ran after Peter while waving his sharp rake, calling out, “Stop thief!”

Peter was so scared and ran all over the garden forgetting his way out. He ran so fast, he lost both his shoes. Sadly, because he was so confused he ran right into a gooseberry net, which wrapped around his jacket’s large brass button. Read the rest of the story and find out who befriended Peter and what Mr. McGregor tried to do.
