Designer wares at big discounts
For those who can muster the enthusiasm to shop, plenty of special sales are scheduled for the week ahead. One, in fact, is already underway: Today is the second and final day that a cluster of Almont Avenue shops in West Hollywood will be offering deep discounts on fine furniture, lighting, fabrics and decorative accessories.
The markdowns will reach 70% at designer Peter Dunham’s Hollywood at Home store and 50% at designer Joe Lucas’ Harbinger. Their neighbor, Nathan Turner, is offering up to 50% off showroom models, including a studded, tufted Flores club chair, reduced from $2,875 to $1,640.

The Environment Furniture showroom inside the H.D. Buttercup home furnishings emporium has launched a holiday sale, with 20% to 70% off select floor samples, overstock and discontinued designs. For those who favor the handcrafted and the locally made, A+R in Venice is hosting ceramist Maria White Mebane’s trunk show today. Diners at the L.A. restaurant Jar may know her work: Those are Mebane’s tea light vessels gracing each table. The Hollywood-based artist will show a collection of pots and jewelry. How about some budget-minded modern? West Elm has placed much of its bath merchandise on sale. A square-shaped silver towel ring, normally $24, has been marked down to $15; its coordinating towel bar, originally $39, is $27.
The cotton Ikat shower curtain with a zigzag design, originally $44, is on sale for $30. Organic cotton hand towels in a reversible, two-tone design -- blue/brown, rust/brown or white/fawn -- have been marked down from $14 to $10. Matching bath towels, regularly $22, are $17.
