Deco? They’ll drink to that

Bullocks Wilshire, the erstwhile grande dame of Los Angeles department stores, was the fitting venue last week for a celebration of the Los Angeles Conservancy’s 30th anniversary.

The Art Deco landmark -- owned by Southwestern Law School, honored for its meticulous $29-million restoration -- welcomed more than 250 guests, including gala co-chairs Diane Keaton and Linda Bruckheimer (attending with her husband, producer Jerry). Fashion designer Trina Turk, architect Brenda Levin and former Yahoo Chief Executive Terry Semel also were there.

Arriving through the elegant porte-cochere, guests entered the marble-filled central hall to peruse the silent auction and enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres where the city’s elite shoppers once bought perfumes and powders. On the ornate second floor, they relaxed on sofas while viewing a fashion show featuring vintage Bullocks Wilshire clothing. Later, VIP guests sat for dinner in what had been the Bullocks Wilshire Tea Room, where many in attendance had celebrated special occasions in years past.
