4-year-old boy is killed in car crash
A 4-year-old boy was killed and six other people were injured in a traffic collision Friday morning on California Highway 126, authorities said.
Lucia Cardoza, 24, had her two children in the back seat of her car when she swerved across traffic, hit a metal guardrail, then swung back into traffic and was struck by a van about 2:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
The boy was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Cardoza was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, and she and her 1-year-old child were taken to Ventura County Medical Center, authorities said.
The driver of the van, Maria Rangel, and her three passengers suffered minor injuries.
